What's with the Wati Wara, dingo paw and motto? The words Wati Wara are both Pitjantjatjara words that mean Tall Man
Placing a 'ku' after a noun means that something belongs to the noun - ie Wati Waraku Wiltja means that the Wiltja (temporary shelter/humpy) belongs to the Tall Man. Wati Wara is often abbreviated to Wara and so something like Waraku Education would mean the education belonging to Wati Wara. The settlement of Fregon in the Pitjantjatjara Lands used the dingo paw as a symbol and, apparently although I could never pick it out, was laid out to represent a dingo paw from the air. The Dingo Paw is also the mark that is left in the red sand as it moves about in the bush. The motto "Learn with the Free stuff First" is about using free open source software for learning in schools. One of the things that naturally happens is that we tend to have a preference for using the tools that we learnt with in the first place. Using free open source software for this means that students are able to continue with their learning unencumbered. Make tracks with the tall man, learning with the free stuff first |
